2008 Annual Member Fall Exhibition

          HAZEN GALLERY
ALLEGANY COLLEGE of  MARYLAND

OCTOBER 6th  to NOVEMBER 28th, 2008

 RECEIVING:  Wednesday, October 1st,  between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.  at the Hazen Gallery at Allegany College of Maryland

 ENTRY FORMS/IDENTIFICATION TAGS:  To be filled in                              correctly and clearly at time of receiving, or returned to Kathie Beaulieu at her email address believe2@atlanticbb.net  (Responding by email would eliminate having to take extra time at the HazenGallery)

 OPENING RECEPTION:  Monday, October 6th,  7:00 p.m. (Brief          meeting @ 6:30 p.m.)

 REFRESHMENTS:  Provided by members and participants.  Should be brought to the Gallery prior to the Show  (6:30 business meeting).

 PICK UP:  Monday, November 24th between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.

 SHOW RULES

  • Each member can enter up to 3 pieces of art.

  •  PARTICIPANTS:  Members of Western Maryland Watercolor Society with membership dues up to date.

   MULTIMEDIA

       Any media needing matted / framed:

 1.  MATS – must be well cut and free of debris.
 2. FRAMES – must be in good condition (corners meeting, not warped or scratched).
3. GLASS OR PLEXI-GLASS – must be clean with appropriate cleaners used; must be in good condition and free of scratches.
4. ALL WORK – must be equipped with wire and ready to hang.  NO  SAWTOOTH  HANGERS.

           ANY MEDIA NEEDING SPECIAL DISPLAY:

 1.      MUST BE PROVIDED BY THE ARTIST

PICK-UP OF WORK:  Must be accomplished during specified times following the close of the show noted above.  WMWS will not be responsible for unclaimed work.

 WORKS MY NOT BE REMOVED BY THE ARTIST DURING THE SHOW

  WORK DOES NOT HAVE TO BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE – but must be priced for insurance purposes.

PARTICIPATION IN THE SHOW WILL REQUIRE AN ENTRY FEE OF $10, AND IS TO BE PAID AT THE TIME THE WORK IS RECEIVED.

 *Kathie Beaulieu, Jakkie Lease and Maria Mechem will be receiving, hanging and /or displaying works of art.  Bobbi Dubins will handle sales.

This is an annual WMWS exhibit which usually runs from October through November.  All members of the WMWS are invited to exhibit their work.  There is no restriction on the type of work members may exhibit.  Works may be oil, acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, jewelry, furniture, or any other media.  This is not a competition, there is no jurying, and there are no awards.  This is an opportunity for all members to show their work  in a public forum.  All members are encouraged to show!

Best in Show, 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, Honorable Mention (if enough donations), the Irene Murphy Memorial Award, Creativity Award, Inner Essence Award, Still Life Award, Landscape Award, Floral Award, Best Abstract/Design, and the Newcomer Award.

A member can only win one of the awards in the first category (Best in Show through Honorable Mention) but can win any number among the rest.

Keep in Mind:

AAC will keep 40% commission of the retail price on the gallery sale.

2007 Annual Member Fall Exhibition The 2007 WMWS annual member fall Multimedia Show, will be  held at the Allegany College of Maryland Hazen Gallery in Cumberland MD from October 1 through November ?, 2007.

Receiving: September 28 (3:00-5:00).

Entry forms/tag: To be filled in correctly and clearly at time of receiving.

Opening reception: Monday, October 1, 7:00pm (immediately after the business meeting at 6:30, which will be held outside the Hazen Gallery).

Refreshments will be provided by members and participants.  Should be brought to the gallery prior to the show (6:30 business meeting).

Exhibition Title/Theme: "Flourish"

Flourish, a name that reflects the growth and vibrance of spring and summer, the flourishing are community in Allegany County and our artists' unique expressions in watercolor (i.e. adding your own flourish to what you do).

Dictionary: Flourish: To make broad sweeping movements, to wave vigorously. To be in ones prime.  To grow luxuriantly. A dramatic gesture or action.

Can include paintings of landscapes, portraits, buildings, landmarks, etc.

Added Bonus for 2007:

Members may paint at the gallery during the run of the show. If one, or a group, wish to paint in the large bay window in front of the gallery please let Jill know. THere is a sink in the back for water and clean up.  AAC can provide a 3'x6' table if needed. AAC will beopen on Sundays and late on Friday nights. Keep these events in mind if you want to work in the window:

  1. Canal/Rail Fest July 6,7 and 8
  2. Tri-State Car Show June 30 - July 2
  3. The School House Quilt Show at Allegany Fair Grounds June 22-24
  4. Lots of wonderful shows during the run of the show: Full Monty & The Man Who Came to Dinner (Cumberland Theatre), Beauty and the Beast (Allegany High School), and Shanty Town III (New Embassy Theatre).

2006 Annual Spring Show  2006 Spring show was held at the Saville Gallery on Baltimore Street in Cumberland Town Center.
