Nancy Biggs

Nancy Biggs earned Miss Shreve's displeasure in the first grade by announcing "All grapes REALLY aren't the same shade of purple and don't look like a triangle full of nickles." Since then she has found her own way in art. Miss Shreve is long gone.

In Illinois and Pennsylvania, she marketed batik articles as well as custom designed clothing. In Maryland she designed and knit sweaters, and demonstrated spinning, weaving and dyeing, as well as quilting. Watercolor and pottery classes the past eight years have broadened her activities.

She is a member of the Western Maryland Watercolor Society, the Allegany Arts Council, the Allegany Area Art Alliance, Artists at Canal Place, and the Garrett County Arts Council.

Landscapes are handwoven on an antique two-harness loom, utilizing hand spun and hand dyed yarns as well as commercial yarns, all in a very wide variety of colors and texture range. This, combined with a variety of styles of weaving and surface manipulations, adds to the texture and enables me to interpret the hills and trees and water in each scene.
