Joy Sanders



     

 Joy grew up in Cumberland. She graduated from Allegany High School.  She received her Masters’ Degree in Art Education K-12 from FSU.  She taught Art K-12 and Special Needs for 8 years in Mineral County. Joy also earned a pre-primary Montessori teaching credential and was a Montessori teacher and director at Children’s Manor Montessori School in Ellicott City, Md. for nine years.

    Now retired from teaching in Mineral County, Sanders is pursuing her personal art, mainly in the media of watercolor and colored pencil painting. She is a member of the Allegany Art Alliance, Allegany Arts Council and the Western Maryland Watercolor Society, Arts at Canal Place and the newly formed local chapter  Greater Cumberland – district 121 Colored Pencil Society of America. Joy received the “Inner Essence” award for her watercolor “Great-grandmother Hugs” in the spring, 2008, Western Maryland Watercolor Society show. She has attended numerous watercolor and colored pencil workshops. Her subject matter is varied, from portraits, to local historical sites - to everyday scenes that may inspire her to visually portray and attempt to elevate to a personal artistic statement.
